Bill Lamb Memorial Pro-Am at Portlethen

Monday 22nd August 2016

On Saturday 20th August, I was one of the privileged professionals invited to take part in the Pro-Am at Portlethen to honour and remember Bill Lamb.

Bill Lamb was a very successful Buisness man who along with Graham Thom set up Grampian Freight International. He was also a very keen golfer and did a tremendous amount for many PGA professionals, sponsoring individual pros, as well as being the main sponsor for The Northern Open for many years.

48 teams played on Saturday at Portlethen, making it by far the biggest Pro-Am on the Scottish Tartan Tour, despite a 1 hour delay due to poor visibility, every team completed 18 holes.

The Prizegiving was packed with friends and family showing their respect for a great friend who always had a good word for you!

The winning individual score of 5 under par was shot by Greig McBain and Michael Patterson, scoring was very good despite the windy and later on wet conditions.

I scored 75, with halves of 37 and 38, I played pretty good for the most part but dropped a few shots with some errant drives. The highlight of the day was 3 birdies from the 4 par 5's and another birdie on the Par 3 - 5th hole. On the last hole a Par 5 in to the wind my 3 wood second shot finished right on the edge of the Greenside bunker on a tricky tight sandy lie, I nipped it nicely to 3 feet and rolled in the birdie putt.
