Short Game Clinic -Week 2- The Art of Chipping

Wednesday 31st August 2016

Last night was the 2nd session of my Short Game Masterclass series, where we focused on chipping . There is some confusion regarding the difference between a chip and a pitch.

A chip is a low running shot that spends most of its journey on the ground, a pitch is a higher flighted shot which spends most of its time in the air!

Having set up various stations with different distances and lies,I introduced the basic chip technique,

1. Set up to the ball with the club almost vertical with the heel of the club off the ground.

2. Weight distribution 90% on target side foot.

3. Stroke - stiff twisted powered by shoulders , NO Wrist action !

The majority of golfers try to lift the ball in the air by making a scooping action , resulting in thin contacts and also hitting the ground behind the ball. One must have the mindset to strike the ball in to the ground to ensure the correct contact.

If you would like to learn the Real Secret to Lower Scores sign up for my Short Game Handicap programme, a 7 lesson package which covers putting/chipping/pitching/bunkers/lob shots/sidehill and downhill lies. As well as finding out your true Short Game Handicap and learn how to practice effectively. To register email leepro67@hotmail.com.
