Tartan Tour Update

Thursday 27th July 2017

Yesterday I was invited to play in the Panmure Golf Club Pro-am, one of Scotlands finest links courses, a real must play for any serious golfer.

Teeing off in the 2nd group at 8.40am, conditions were overcast and windy, with storms due at 10am. I started well, being 2 under after 6 holes before the storm hit, then from the 7th to the 18th tee, conditions were so bad, that keeping a hold of the club was a challenge due to the rain, despite all this I was able to get to the 18th tee in 1 over par, as the sun came out, I was able to hit a good drive down the middle, which left me with 193 yards in to the wind, I hit a "stinger" 2 iron with a fade in to the right to left wind finishing pin high 25 feet from the hole, and was delighted to roll the ball in to the cup for a birdie and Level par score of 70.

I was leading for most of the day, eventually finishing jt 3rd, 1 shot off the winning score of 69.

This represented my 3rd competitive round of golf since August 2016, and only my 7th round of golf in total, since that time.

The key to playing well at any time and especially in bad weather, is being very patient, having a good short game and being able to control the trajectory of your ball flight, having grown up and honed my game at the best links course of them all, Carnoustie, I learned early on, how to chip and putt, how to hit low penetrating iron shots and how to stay calm under pressure, all of these attributes are learned skills, and ones I coach in every lesson I give.
