54 hole tournament at The Renaisssance

Monday 25th May 2015

Today I tee it up in the first round of the Palmer and Harvey sponsored 54 hole Order of Merit event, at The Renaissance Golf Course. The Renaissance was built 8 years ago and is situated inside the Archerfield Estate right next door to Muirfield, the venue for the 2013 Open Championship.

Although the course is tree lined, it has a links feel to it. The fairways are hard and bouncy, so depending on the wind,( yesterday I hit a 6 iron 127 yards in to the wind, and a 6 iron 245 yards downwind) the weather will have a big say as to what the scoring will be.

One thing is for sure, you MUST be able to control the Trajectory of your golf ball! To play links golf well, you need to be able to hit the ball under the wind, in order to do this, your weight must be on your left leg at Impact and your body must be Rotating all the way to your finish! One other thing, take a longer club and swing smoother, this will take the spin off the ball and help you to pierce it in to the breeze!

I will keep you updated as I go!
