Northern Open at Cruden Bay

Wednesday 10th June 2015

Yesterday I shot a disappointing 80 in the first round of the Northern Open at Cruden Bay, conditions were warm with a good breeze in the afternoon. I was sitting nicely on 2 over par after 8 holes, and after hitting a good tee shot on the 9th, I pulled my 2iron just off the fairway in to thick rough, losing my ball on my way to a double bogey 6, and a 4 over40. With another 6 on the 10th  hole, set me on route to a 10 over par 80.

We took a ridiculous 5 and half hours to play our game- oh dear!

Today was a better story in both my game and the pace of play. I shot level par 70, starting with birdies on the 1st and 2nd holes, and after adding another birdie on the 10 th hole, I was sitting comfortably to make the 8 over par cut mark. 3 bogeys on the back ( 12, 14 and 17) however, saw me miss by 2 shots. We took 4 hours 20 to play today! Much better.

Its never good to miss a cut, but you must take the positives from your game, I drove the ball quite well, hit a lot of nice iron shots and putted steady, with 30 putts both days.

The 9th and 10 th holes at Cruden have been re designed and are fabulous. I was 5 shots better on those holes today from yesterday!

Ah yes, if we could only have a second serve as in tennis! Maybe, I'll suggest that to the R and A!
