9 Hole Stableford Competitions Now On Offer

Tuesday 15th October 2019

Tomorrow sees the commencement of our 9 hole Stableford Competitions playing from holes 1 to 8 and then jumping onto hole 18 to complete your 9 hole round.

These Stablefords will be counting towards handicaps and our course has been rated as SSS of 70.

You can book these competitions online as BRS has been set up, so this may allow some members the opportunity to get a competitive round in after work.

Although the times are set on BRS as late afternoon you can however play a 9 hole stableford round on this designated course at any point during the day. So you may prefer that at this time of the year 9 holes is enough to play midweek, rather than the full 18 holes. This gives you the opportunity to play competitive golf when time is restricted. At the moment the 9 hole competitions will only be set up for Wednesdays as that is the designated midweek medal day.

The full rules and explanations are as below

  • The Standard Scratch Score quoted on the certificate is expressed as an 18 hole equivalent (essentially the 9 hole SSS doubled);
  • There is no CSS when playing a nine hole competition;
  • Individuals will play the nine holes and return a stableford score;
  • All handicap adjustments are made in conjunction with the SSS of the 9-hole course;
  • Players are given a 9 hole Handicap Allowance using a formula which accounts for any difference between the par and the SSS;
  •                                 Exact Handicap + 9 Hole SSS  - (9 Hole Par x 2)/2
  • Strokes are taken according to the stroke index of the designated 9 hole course - so the target score over 9 holes to play to handicap is 18 points;
  • Initially, 18 stableford points are added to determine whether the player has made buffer;

Category 1: 36 Points;

Category 2/3: 35 – 36 Points;

Category 4/5/6: 34 – 36 Points.

  • If the points scored for the nine holes played plus the 18 neutral points added are within or better than the Buffer Zone this total is recorded on the player’s handicap record and the Nett Differential calculated accordingly;
  • If this total is not within or better than the Buffer Zone the total points recorded on the record is double the actual Stableford points scored and the Nett Differential calculated accordingly. A 0.1 increase is applied to the player’s Exact handicap.
