Andrew Finlay -- Peter Simpson Salver Stableford Winner 2020

Tuesday 8th September 2020

Congratulations to Andrew Finlay who won the Peter Simpson Salver Stableford this weekend following rounds of 35 and 42pts, giving him a total of 77 points.

In second place on 76 points (37+39) was Derek Cruickshank and in 3rd place on 73 points (40+33) was Les Brown.

With Andrew and Derek playing together late on Sunday it was a great contest for this award. Andrew picked up 22pts on the front 9, with birdies on holes 1, 5, 7 and 8 and a bogey on 4 leaving him with an outward gross of 32 (3 under), Derek meanwhile only picked up 17pts on his outward 9, meaning Andrew had a 3pt lead. In the back nine Andrew birdied 14 and 16 to go to 5under and for a while Paul Reid's course record of 62 was looking like being equalled but alas a bogey bogey finish seen Andrew finish gross 66 and a great 42 pts, Derek on the other hand played the back 9 in two over par and picked up 22pts but just not enough as Andrew picked up the Peter Simpson Salver Stableford for 2020.

Well Done Andy (he says through gritted teeth........no it was a pleasure watching a masterful round of golf, and Andy's wasnt too bad either!!!)

Next up this coming Saturday is the Captains Quaich Gross and Net Events and also the 8th round of our season long Nippon Gases Europe Order of Merit. The gross section is tight with 4pts separating the top three of Andrew Ashley, Martin Garvie and Chris Polson, whereas in the Net section although Martyn Garvie has a lead over Andrew Finlay, with 30pts still to play for - this section is still wide open for someone to post three good rounds in the next 3 Saturdays.
