Where’s your weight at Impact.

Monday 3rd February 2020

Do you struggle with inconsistency of contact with fairway shots?

Among the many different reasons behind this, it could well be that your not managing Pressure well!

No, I don't mean the pressure of competition, I am talking about where your pressure is in your feet at Impact.

If you look at the amazing photograph of Jack Nicklaus, this picture clearly shows that The Bear is putting a ton of pressure in to his target foot. By the time the target arm is parallel to the ground in the downswing all great ball strikers and long hitters have 80% of their total pressure in their traget foot!

In order to accomplish this a golfer must make an effective backswing ( that's another topic) in order to sequence correctly in to Impact.

Try this drill - it's called the walk thru drill.

1. Take your normal set up with a 7 iron.

2. Move your target foot to your trail foot so both feet are very close almost touching

3. Swing to top of your backswing .

4. Start your downswing by replanting your target foot back to where it was at address and swing through to your finish.

If you practice this drill you will eventually feel the correct movement that leads to a proper transition and perfect Impact which allows the club to strike the ball then the ground, thus leading to a better compression of the golf ball.

To improve your impact and understand how the clubhead MUST be delivered through the ball - a golfer needs feedback from the ball, from video analysis and from tangible numbers from a launch monitor- at the Craibstone Golf Academy we focus on providing a learning environment that provides feedback and encourages self discovery.
